Art can get messy.
The Artists' Legal Outreach can help.

We are a group of volunteer lawyers and law students committed to working with artists and arts organizations. We offer resources, workshops and clinics where artists across BC can meet confidentially with an experienced lawyer. Every artistic discipline is welcome, all for the price of a donation.  If you are looking for information about the Law For Non-Profits service you can find it here.

What is now the ALO began as the Arts and Performers Legal Advice and Workshop Series (APLAWS). APLAWS was the creation of the late Burt Harris, a friend and colleague to many in the arts, who for many years tried to get a legal advice clinic for artists off the ground.  Without his steadfast efforts we would not be here all these years later.

We are grateful for the financial contributions of our lawyer supporters and especially Steve McKeon, longtime volunteer and Board Vice-President.  Workshop support has come from the City of Vancouver, Cultural Services.  Law For Non-Profits is supported by the City of Vancouver Social Innovation fund and the Social Responsibility Fund.   The Law Foundation and Access Copyright Cultural Foundation have provided us with support to improve our copyright resources. We are an incorporated non profit society.
